Dilhani Lekamge Aims at Breaking National Record

Asian Games medallist Dilhani Lekamge is set to make her Olympic debut in the women's javelin finals in Paris today. With a personal best of 61.57 meters, Lekamge aims to surpass this mark to qualify for the finals

Her coach, Pradeep Nishantha, expressed confidence in her ability to secure a final berth before the team's departure for Paris.

The 37-year-old Lekamge is the second Sri Lankan woman to compete in the javelin throw at the Olympics, following former national record holder Nadeeka Lakmali, who participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics

Lekamge will compete in Group 'A' against formidable opponents such as Germany’s Christin Hussong, with a personal best of 69.19 meters, and Austria’s Victoria Hudson, who has a seasonal best of 66.06 meters

To qualify for the finals, throwers in groups 'A' and 'B' must clear a distance of 62.00 meters or rank within the top 12. Lekamge's goal is to break her national record and advance to the final round
